Felt Christmas Tree with Ornaments and Presents

Welcome to our third day of the Twelve Days of Christmas blog series! Hi everyone- it's Courtney here today. I don't know about you, but I have three young kids who are obsessed with our Christmas tree-  a new, twinkling object with cool "toys" attached- SO FUN! Until they start breaking the ornaments. :( And then get into trouble. booooo

So this year I decided to make a Christmas tree that they can play with alllll day long- a felt Christmas tree with felt ornaments! I am not going to lie- they still love to play with our other trees. But at least this distracts them for a while!

Supplies:
Green felt
Colored Felt
Scissors
Ruler
Sharpie
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Adhesive- poster tape, poster putty, painter's tape, Command Strips, etc.

Quick and Easy Fleece Hat Pattern

I am pretty excited about today's free project, both because it is FREEZING outside here, and also because there are a bunch of fleece fabric sales going on this week for the holiday.  What a perfect time for a cold weather fleece pattern!

I thought about making the construction of our fleece hat similar to that of Sammy's Slouchy Beanie for knit we did a couple years ago (find it here), but I decided to give this one a little more structure for the fleece.  I think you'll also love that it is all one piece and that it can be made either as a slouchy hat or a tighter hat!

Supplies:

1/2 yard of fleece (makes two hats)
Sewing machine

Pillowcase Lounging Bed

The holidays are coming up and I always try to think of gifts that will have a handmade touch but not take too much time to make. After all, there is more than just one person on my list!  Today's project is super quick but makes a big WOW for those receiving it, especially if they are kiddos.

How to Get the Most Out of Your Fabric

I was so excited to buy some adorable custom knit fabric for my daughter's Thanksgiving shirt. The knit was a bit pricey so I bought the minimum one yard and figured I could make it work. Of course then she chose a pattern that uses much more fabric than I had planned, after adding up the fabric requirements for each of the pieces. But because I didn't have any coordinating knit and because I love my daughter so much (awe), I decided to get out my ruler and see if it was at all possible to make the shirt with what I had. And guess what -- the math told me it would work out! So I put my trust in the numbers and cut very carefully with a few techniques. So that's what I'm going to show you how to do today!

Zipper Video

We have had a lot of requests for a video showing how to attach a zipper to some of our dresses and tops, so that's exactly what you get to see today!  We love the fit that comes from using a zipper closure and if you've been afraid to try one in the past, it's time to get past your fears!  Attaching a zipper can be as easy as sewing straight lines. Really.

If you prefer to learn from step-by-step photos, you can find those inside your specific CKC pattern or at this free blog post:  "Adding a Zipper."  But for those of you who want to see the zipper-sewing in action, here you go!
