Unicorn Week: You've Been Unicorn-ed!

You’ve Been Unicorn-ed!

We are so excited to announce a fun new game: You’ve Been Unicorn-ed!”

To play, you will simply put together a unicorn themed package, print out some of the “Unicorn Printables” (linked below) and anonymously drop off your unicorn package to neighbors and friends!

If you get Unicorn-ed by a friend or neighbor, post the “I’ve Been Unicorn-ed” printable in your window. If you are Unicorn-ed on Facebook or from a social media secret friend, change your profile pic to the “I’ve Been Unicorn-ed Profile Pic”.

In the printables linked above, you will also find cupcake toppers, note cards, and even tags for gourmet unicorn poop! Here's your chance to get creative!

That's it!  Have fun and pay it forward! We could all use a little magic and fantasy in our day!

Printable Pinning Labels

One of my FAVORITE things to do is sew a new project! (I'm sure that's no surprise; here I am on a sewing blog.) And yet, one of my *least* favorite things to do is try to figure out what in the world is going on in my sewing room after I had to abandon it for the 5,573rd time in one day.  The life of a sewing mama, right?  There's all these cute pieces of fabric lying in a pile, but how do I remember which one is which? And which one goes where?

If you can relate to this scenario, then today's blog post is for you!

Today we have printable pinning labels for you!  I absolutely rely on labeling my fabric pieces. It's just one less thing I need to remember. If that sounds like an extra step you don't want to worry about, please try it out and see what a time saver it really is!

You might have caught this blog post I did awhile back, that shows how much the labels can help every step of the way. Whether it's labeling which side is the top, or the front or the back end of the sleeve -- or just helping you keep the different tiers and ruffles straight.

Or, let's say you're making three different sizes of the same outfit. You definitely don't want to sew the 2T sleeves onto the 5T dress!  If you label your pieces, you don't have to come up with a scientific way of stacking them, or waste any precious brain cells keeping it all straight.

Printable Sewing-Themed Valentines

It's that time of year again!  When my first child came home with their first list of classmates to make valentines for them, I was SO excited! I soon discovered, though, that first of all, boys aren't always as into it as girls are (or maybe mine was an exception), and second, that it can be a LOT of work for tiny kids to make it through that whole list! Then we throw candy and art supplies into the mix, and... wow!  Multiply that by five and then ask me how my week has been. (Joking! I love my creative kids!)

But still, whether we like it or not, Valentine's Day happens so let's have some fun with it!  I'm really not the valentine grinch like I might have made it sound.  This year at CKC we decided to create some super fun sewing-related valentines, just for you!

How fun are these?!  All you have to do is download, print, and cut! If you want your kids to color them, you could print in grayscale instead of color.

Printable for Serger Settings

Have you been enjoying our Serging 101 series?  If you're like me when I first started out, you might have a bunch of numbers and settings floating around in your head now!  I ended up with a bunch of sticky notes by my machine with setting reminders.  I admit that I still use those sticky notes as a quick reference! (Very helpful in the middle of the night when I'm sleep-deprived and in a hurry.)  But I must say that the sticky notes aren't very attractive and I occasionally lose them. There's probably a whole pile behind my sewing desk.  Anyway... today we have a fun printable for you that is super cute and it will free us all from the craziness of memory games and sticky notes!

Here is an all-in-one chart of serger settings, and it can be used for most (if not all) brands and models of sergers!  All you need to do is print it out, fill in your settings, and then keep it near your machine. Of course these are only starting points for the settings. You may need to adjust based on the fabric type and thickness, etc.  As you can see, the chart has blanks for the four needle tensions, as well as the differential feed, stitch length, and stitch width when applicable.  I included some of the most commonly used functions and then also left room for you to add more if you'd like. Pretty handy!

Printable Thank You's

Did you all have a wonderful Christmas?  My family did and now we're basking in the glow of toys and games and oh-so-many treats. I'm always touched by the generosity of family and friends at this time of year. An after-Christmas tradition I have is to make homemade cards to send out to family who sent us gifts. They never seem to expect it but are happy to know that we were grateful enough to say thanks. Last year I had the kids write their own thank-you's. Aside from taking forever to get them written, it was a really rewarding experience for all of us.  I highly suggest it to all parents out there. And we're even going to make it easy for you!

We've created this little Thank You note template for you to print out. (Two per page!) You can have your kids fill in the blanks, color the pictures, and then send them to your loved ones. It's that easy!

And just for the record, I think these would be really cute for adults to send as well. We're all young at heart, right? If any of my adult family members took the time to color and send one my way, I'd be delighted!  You can download our free printable Thank You Template here

Do You Measure Up?

I think I've been asked at least a hundred times, "Do your patterns run true to size?"

And, I know I've heard other people say at least a thousand times, "There's no such thing as true to size."

While it's true that all commercial brands do have their own sizing methods, there is such a thing as as a standard. A standard is simply a set of rules, or in this case measurements, to use when producing a product. Many countries have their own set of standards since body size/shape does vary greatly by geographic region.  While not all clothing companies or pattern designers follow the US standard that is recognized in the industry, Create Kids Couture does follow it closely while drafting  to ensure proper fit of all our patterns.

As many of you know, I’m in a rental house while waiting for the house to be finished building.  I’m living out of boxes to unpack as little as possible.  I wanted to make some decorations that didn't require any sewing (because it’s all packed up) and was easy (let’s face it I don’t always have a lot of time with four very small kids).

Banner making is the perfect project for kids.  I left it very simple so that they can help color it, or you can print it on colored paper or even scrapbook paper.
