3rd Day of Christmas: Picture Frame Pincushion

We're excited to share today's free pattern with you for the Third Day of CKC Christmas! This one comes to us from Shannon, the co-owner and co-founder of CKC. So of course this project is going to be super cute and trendy. Here's Shannon:

Looking for the perfect gift for a fellow seamstress in your life? Or maybe you just want to add a little personality to your sewing room? Today's Picture Frame Pincushion tutorial is perfect for just these situations and it takes only minutes to whip up. Let's get started!

Materials Needed:
  • Picture frame --I got mine from the clearance section at Michael's and spray painted it to match my sewing room. Painting is a great way to personalize things, but I am NO expert so I suggest you turn to YouTube for examples on how to do it properly. Just being honest ;)
  • Piece of fabric --The size of your picture frame determines the size of the fabric. Just make sure it will cover the opening with room for stuffing and folding in the back. My picture frame was for a 5x7 picture and my fabric scrap was 10" x 10".
  • Handful of stuffing

Step 1: Open the back of the picture frame. Take out any papers or cardboard that may be in there. Set the glass aside for now.

Step 2: Take your fabric piece and center it over the opening with the right sides of your fabric facing the back of the picture frame, as shown.

Step 3: Take a handful of stuffing and put it in the middle of the fabric so it's pushing it out in the frame's front opening.

Step 4: Place the glass on top of the stuffing and wrap the fabric around it. Pull the fabric so it does not have any bumps or wrinkles across the front of the frame.

Step 6: Close the back of the picture frame. You're done and it's ready to use! It's so fast and easy and a great addition to anyone's sewing room.

How clever is that? I told you it would be super cute. I can see my kids having fun picking up all the dropped pins and decorating my "picture" for me every time they come near. I can't wait to share some with my local sewing friends too! We would love to see the frame pincushions you make so please share a photo and tag us when you get them made.
