April Boutique of the Month

For our April Boutique of the Month we have chosen Faith's Fashions.
Faith's Fashions is owned by Candice who is the sweetest woman ever! We've had the pleasure of knowing Candice for the past year and we just can't say enough good things about her! We encourage you to read our interview with her below and to visit her on Facebook and say "Hello". We know you will love her as much as we do!

Create Kids Couture (CKC): Okay, first things first: Congrats on being the CKC Boutique of the Month! We love the hard work and dedication you put into your boutique! So, how did you get into sewing and what got you to open your own boutique?

Faith's Fashions (FF): I initially learned to sew in middle school and high school but only did very basic things from that point until I had my own little princess.  I wanted to learn to make things for her. She has been my inspiration.  I began my own boutique starting with making bows and learned to sew many different beautiful creations after opening in an effort to make things that my daughter wanted that could not be purchased elsewhere and to expand my boutique helping it grow.  I love making custom items for my customers and seeing their little ones in the items that we have created. It brings happiness to my soul when I get to see little ones so happy to be wearing Faith's Fashions creations.  I strive for perfection in all of my creations, and would never send out an item in a condition that I would not purchase for my own child, which is what I believe has helped Faith's Fashions to be able to be so successful.

CKC: I wish more boutiques thought that way! Its disheartening that so many people really are in this for the money and not about doing what they love! Kudos to you! My next question, which is a favorite of mine to ask, is as a mom, how do you find time to fulfill orders, create new pieces, and just run a business in general?

FF: hahaha.. This one is going to SHOCK a lot of people...The honest answer.. don't sleep.. lol..
I work full time in a law firm Monday through Friday, have a 4 year old who is in ballet and a 10 year old who is in Lacrosse.  Between work and kids activities, the only time that is left for working on orders is once they are in bed and on the weekends.  I am lucky to have a significant other that helps me immensely! So, in short, I just don't sleep as much as I used to but it is completely worth it when I get to see the photos of the little ones in our creations!

CKC: Wow. you go girl! lol. Good for you! You are one busy lady. You had said earlier that your daughters were your inspiration, which I think most of us can relate to, so how do you come up with your new designs? What is your creation process?

FF: Yes my daughter is my inspiration. This is a somewhat difficult question to answer because we have a different process for coming up with each of our new designs. I tend to see things in my mind and then have to jot them down so that I can play with the idea.  Other times, I just grab a stack of fabrics and just try to put them together in a way that I think will look outstanding.  There has been a lot of trial and error but there has also been a lot of successful creations.  Many of Create Kids Couture's patterns have been huge part of our creation process along with many other patterns.  There has been many times that we have taken several patterns and merged them together in ways to create a new item with the desired appeal.  Then there is my favorite! Customer request have been a HUGE part of our creations! If a customer wants something in a specific fabric or design with a specific theme, we always do our best to accommodate them! Our desired goal is to get to a point where I can do Faith's Fashions full time and dedicate my time and energy solely to my customers and my children.

CKC: Oooooh "we"! Are there more than one of you or are you just referring to your business as a "we"?

FF: Well, I am the only one who sews but, there is James (my fiance) who helps immensely by cutting, making bias tape, buying fabric, running to the store for necessary supplies, serging, etc. and I have my best friend, Kristen (My 3 Little Kittens) who set up my website and deals with all of the technical and design aspects so... in short yes, it is we :)

CKC: Oh wow! And I thought my husband was supportive while watching the kids while I work! lol. Good for you! So what is your most favorite piece that you have created? While you're at it...what's your husband's favorite piece that you've created? It's always fun to see what the men say! lol.

FF: My all time favorites (yes, there are two) are my Turkey Milk Maid Dress and my Easter Patchwork Twirler Dress (although this is not my favorite pattern to do.. lol).  They both turned out absolutely stunning and I have loved them since the day that I made them! I will have to get back to you on James' because he is at the store for me right now.. lol. James' favorite item that we have created is the Taffeta and Satin Formal Dress :)  Another one that I was very pleased with!

CKC:  So last question, if you could go back to when yo started Faith's Fashions and tell yourself about the most important thing you've learned as a business owner thus far, what would it be?

FF: The one thing that I have always known (since college) and I would say is the most important thing that I have learned is that the customer always comes first.  Without their continued business and them being pleased with not only the items, but also the service that they receive, the business would be an imminent failure. So I have to say it is that the customer is the most important part of the business and that they need to be treated accordingly!
