It's the 5th Day of CKC Christmas and today our free pattern/tutorial comes to us from Emily Wise, one of our tween pattern designers. I know that girls of all ages are going to love this style, and especially those with new little-ones-on-the-way like Emily! Here she is with today's tutorial:
Knits are soft and cuddly, a perfect fabric for an infinity
scarf. I needed one to double as a nursing
cover, so whether you’re a hip tween or
stylish mamma, you’ll love this addition to your accessories. These also make a wonderful gift for girls of
all ages!
Materials:
1 yard of 60 inch knit fabric (instructions for double and
single sided fabric)
Thread
Sewing Machine/Serger
Construction for double sided knit fabric:
1. Lay out your fabric to its full width and fold
the 36” sides to meet.
There will be two
“right sides” of your fabric, so either side will do.
2.
Pin the 36” sides together and sew with a 1”
seam allowance.
3.
Now we will fold the seam allowance similar to
how you create bias tape.
Open the seam.
Fold the Raw Edges to the center
and press.
Fold the right side over the left side and
pin in place.
4.
Sew 1/8” from the edge down the length of the
scarf.
Now both sides of your scarf have a finished seam.
Now both sides of your scarf have a finished seam.
If you are making a scarf out of single sided knit, you only
need to complete steps 1 and 2, but you can either use a serger or a regular
seam allowance.
You don’t need to finish the other edges of your scarf
because we are using knits!
See pics below for how to wear as a scarf and nursing cover!
I hope you enjoy making some awesome infinity scarves for
yourself, friends and family this gift-giving season!
