Boutique Of The Month: October

Wowzers! Its already a little over a week into October! When did that happen? So its time to share our October Boutique of the month with our readers.
We want to welcome Twinkle and Bugs! Alainna Bailey is the Momma behind this adorable kids clothing and Accessories business. She's been at for 3 years now so Id say she's got this whole "work at home mom" business down. (now if only I could lol) Her things are so cute, and she really has an eye for fabric!

How did you get into sewing and what got you to open your own boutique?
My husband was laid off when my son was 1 and my daughter was a newborn. We couldn't afford the type of clothing we wanted for them so I began to make it myself. After encouragement from friends and family I decided to try doing it as a business.

Love your heart! I've been there myself when my daughter was brand new. I know being a Mom and a boutique owner is hard, how do you find the time to fulfill orders, create new pieces, and just run a business in general?
I work while my children are in school, when they get to watch tv after homework, and then when they go to bed. I take the weekend of their birthdays off, holiday's off, and our vacations off. During those times I don't go near a computer and I reply to emails from people to let them know that I'm currently on a break(usually only 1-2 days and during vacations it's for 1 week).
I work on the computer to update all of my pages and websites during my working time, the rest of my time I make sure to spend with my children, because they are the reason I started it all!

Run us though your typical work at home day.

I get the kids to school and am home ready to work by 8:30 am. I work until 11, and then I pick my daughter up from pre-school at 11:30. I come home and spend time with her and then go pick my son up at 2:30. I help him do his homework, then around 6:00pm I work for an hour and a half, then I help them get ready for bed and go back to work around 9:00. I work until 12-3am, head to bed and start over the next morning at 6:30am!

How many items do you have currently listed in your shop that you used a Create kids Couture pattern to create?
45

Wow that is a ton! Where do you find inspiration?
Through fabrics, ribbons, whatever my children are into at that time, such as ninja's or princesses, sometimes the patterns I'm using.

What is your favorite piece that you have ever created for your boutique?
It's hard to choose but I currently love the Witchy Fun Halloween Dress. Although my Christmas items for this year are going to be my new favorites. :)

If you could go back to when you first started your business and tell yourself about the most important thing you've learned as a business owner thus far, what would it be?
You can't make everyone happy. People will try and take advantage of you because some don't see you as a true business owner. Since you work from your home they feel that it's just a hobby and that they can therefore bully you into changing your policies. Stick to your policies, or else people will think they can just run over you.
Thanks Alainna those are great words of wisdom!  Thanks so much for being this months Boutique of the month!
Happy sewing!
Morgan
