How To Tuesday: French Seams

This week we are talking about something you all have been begging me do. FRENCH SEAMS!!! If you do not have a serger, French seams are a great way to have neat and clean seams with out raw edges! Let's get started:

Step 1: Place fabrics WRONG side together, (I know it feels weird) and stitch ¼” from the raw edge.

(Stitching ¼” from edge)

Step 2: Open and press seam and fold over so that the fabric is now right sides together. Press again and now stitch 3/8” from edge.

(stiching 3/8' from the folded and pressed edge)

Step 3: Open seam and press.

And just like that you have a French seam! But if you're like me and you want your garment looking as professional as possible, you can now press your French seam flat and stitch down both sides.

(view from inside the garment)
(View from outside)

And now that you have seen our step-by- step photos, how about a live action tutorial?  Susan Smith has created this video for us, demonstrating the same method, so you can just sit back and relax while she does all the work.  Enjoy!
