Whether you're carrying a water bottle, tumbler, or travel size coffee around to keep you hydrated, you're going to love this free tutorial for a custom cozy. Today Elizabeth Ward brings us this super cute and fun tutorial for making your very own!
Materials Needed:
20 oz. coffee tumbler:
1/3 yard knit for main fabric, and 1/8 yard or scrap for contrasting cuff.
OR
Drink Tumbler:
1/2 yard knit for main fabric and 1/8 yard or scrap for contrasting cuff.
Let's get started!
Cutting out your Fabric:
Step 1: Lay out your main fabric and out your main piece according to the chart below:
*Note we are using a 1/4" seam allowance and is included in the measurements above.
Step 2: Cut out your cuff according to the chart above.
Construction:
Step 1: Take your cuff piece and match up the short ends, right sides together. Pin and sew to make a loop.
Step 2: Fold your body piece right sides together, matching up the long sides (like a hotdog). Pin and sew where when in red.
Step 3: Fold the cuff pieces in half, wrong sides together and pin.
Step 4: Starting with the main body still wrong sides out, take the bottom and turn the right side out so that the wrong sides of the loop are facing each other. Match up the raw edges at the top, and the folded portion of the "tube" is at the bottom as shown above.
Step 5: With the right sides together, take the cuff and match up the seam of the cuff with the seam of the bodice, and the raw edges of the cuff with the raw edges of the body. Sew all the way around the loop of the body/cuff.
Tip: If you are using directional fabric, ensure the side you want to see is turned up.
Step 6: Turn the cuff up and topstitch if you prefer a more professional finish, and you're done!
