How to Make Rosetta's Without the Neck Ruffle

Last week we released Rosetta's Ruffle Neck Dress and Top and it has been a huge hit so far! Some of our fans thought it would also be really cute without the neck ruffle, to have a simple version and also to please kids with sensory issues. We knew that it would be a pretty easy alteration to make to the pattern, so we came up with this little tutorial for you!

Upcycle Old Jeans into Boutique Shorts

It's that time of year again.  It's hot outside, the kids need new shorts, and all their jeans are just sitting there mocking us with their worn knees. We have a few options: we can go shopping (fun), we can make shorts from scratch (even more fun), or we can cut off their jeans and call them shorts (functional but not as fun).

~ OR ~

We can make their old jeans into something new and fabulous! Shorts that aren't just okay, but super duper boutique-style cute! Like this ~

Usage Policy for CKC Stock Photos

We often have boutiques ask if they are allowed to use our CKC photos on their pages to advertise the styles they have available in their shops. And our official answer is "some of them"!

While we recommend that each boutique owner sew each outfit herself and photograph it before selling, we know that sometimes this is not feasible as you're getting started. We love to support boutiques who use our patterns, so we have decided to let you use some of the photos from our website!  Please note that this permission is limited to our stock photos only.  Some of the photos on our website have been provided by testers and customers who gave us permission to use them for CKC purposes, but not anywhere else. So it is VERY important that you know what makes an official CKC "stock photo"!  Here are the six different watermark options to look for on the website, that will indicate that a photo may be used as a stock photo:

How to Add an Overlay

We have had a lot of interest in our sewing group about how to dress up or embellish a bodice to make it unique. There are a lot of different techniques and today we're going to talk about how to add an overlay! I love going through the "fancy" section of the fabric store and seeing all the sheers and embroidered specialty fabrics they have. After today's blog post you will know how to make those pretty fabrics a practical (and gorgeous) part of your sewing creations from now on!

All you need to get started is your under-fabric (anything non-sheer will work) and your overlay fabric (usually sheer or textured).  Then of course you will want a pattern of some sort. In my example I'm using Tween Melody's bodice, but you can make any size or shape of bodice using the same technique. Ready? Here we go!
